I am going to be looking at a teaser trailer, theatrical trailer and TV spot for the film Anabelle: Creation and comparing the differences between the types of trailers.

Teaser Trailer:


  • Creepy music - shows it is going to be a horror. 
  • Shows clips from a particular scene from the film, only 2 characters are shown and no development.
  • Impact sounds.
  • Storyline is very briefly shown but doesn't given much away.
  • Non specific release date - 'Coming Soon'. 
  • Name of film at end.
  • Social media hashtag.
Theatrical Trailer:

  • Begins with showing the making of the doll - shows film will be based on this.
  • More characters introduced and some character development.
  • Producers name.
  • Impact sounds.
  • Director - name of previous film.
  • Month of release
  • Taglines - indicate the genre.
  • Better understanding of the storyline.
  • Shows that it is part of a series of films.
  • Begins with a slow pace of editing and speeds up towards the end with a montage of clips.
  • Name of film shown at end
  • Exact date and rating.
  • Social media pages.
  • Credits at the end.
TV Spot:

  • Shows the story line very briefly - more than the teaser.
  • A few characters shown.
  • Voiceovers (not from the film).
  • A bit of dialogue.
  • Quick pace of editing nearer the end - action shots.
  • Exact date.
  • Name of film at end. 
  • Rating and Social media hashtag.
  • Production company logos.
