Conventions found in trailers

Possible conventions found in trailers

  • Name of movie - font, colouring and back drop will show the genre - shown near end - the person is already interested in the film and more likely to remember it at end.


  • Brief outline of the plot - selection of various points.
  • Release date - near end.

  • Social media links/web address/hashtags.
  • Credits - Cast and Crew names.

  • Director and producers names.

  • Production company name and logo - if its a big company name thats recognised people will wanna watch it, or if they've seen a film previously made by the same production company it will draw them in.

  • Taglines.

  • Who created the film and what the producers have previously created.

  • Images of characters - introduces main characters.
  • Names of famous actors/actresses starring.


  • Age certificate - at start, teaser will maybe say not rated yet.

  • Format - If it's 3D or iMax.
  • Music/sound effects/impact sounds.
  • Voiceovers.
  • Shows funny parts or action bits (depending on the genre) - try and get you to see the movie.
  • TEASER = 30 seconds - 1 minute, THEATRICAL = 1 minute - 3 minutes (or longer), TV SPOT = 30 seconds - 1 minute.
