Theatrical Trailers
I am going to be looking at two theatrical trailers and analysing the conventions of each, and seeing how they compare to each other. The films I have chosen are Blockers and Girl on the Train I decided to choice these films as they are both from different genres. Blockers is a comedy about three teenage girls, whereas Girl on the Train is a crime/mystery drama, which is a film that was originally a book, so the target audiences for both films are very different from each other.
Blockers:
- Name of film shown at the start (not common in trailers).
- Characters introduced and developed more - friendships are shown and each of the girls parents.
- Production company name.
- Better understanding of the storyline.
- Season of release.
- Film that the director has previously directed, to influence you to want to see the film if you enjoyed the previous film.
- Genre of film shown - comedy.
- Funniest and most exciting scenes from the film shown.
- Non specific release date - 'coming soon'.
Girl on the Train:
- Production company logos at the start
- Characters shown and briefly developed.
- Taglines - explains what the film is about.
- Understanding of the storyline but not in great detail.
- Based on a book.
- Genre shown.
- Goes from fast pace of editing to slower.
- Voiceovers during scenes of characters from the film.
- Name of film at the end.
- Specific release date.
